a ballet by Summer Dregs

This piece was first commissioned by Ariel Rivka Dance. Part I debuted in 2022 at Manhattan Movement and Arts. Part II Debuted in 2023 at NYU. The process began with Ariel sending over videos of movements, the only sound was feet hitting the floor and the breath of the dancers. Stefania and I would then create musical sketches based on these movements. Ariel would work the movements into dance sketches and then Ariel and I would work together to create the final piece. A true conversation between music and movement.

In one sense, the music is only half the piece. But in another sense this music, informed and created for dance, has a movement all its own. A journey layered with dissonance, meditation and desire.
